#PRTip: Create Multiple Versions of Your Biography

Not all Biographies are created equally, so don’t rely on one single version to tell your whole story. Instead, it’s smart to have a few different Bio’s ready to go to fit each of your different needs.

 

If you’re a multi-hyphenate, then at some point you will probably need a Bio that focuses each of the different areas you’re now working in. So, write one that highlights you as an Actor which could also mentions your directing, producing or writing experience. But, also write a version that mainly highlights you as the Creator/Director/Producer/Writer and then goes on to mention your work in front of the camera.

 

If you work in theater and on-camera, then you will likely need a Bio that emphasizes more of your stage work for those theater playbills. But, don’t forget to include some key theater credits in your on-camera Bio.

 

If you add a Bio to IMDb or other websites you don’t own, be careful. Those other sites can change the rules at any time and you might not be able to update it when you want. I always suggest you keep it simple and general, sticking to basic facts, awards and education so that if you read your Bio 5 years later it will still feel current. Then, post your full Bio on your own personal website because you have total control over that and can update it as often as you want.
